Meet Laura

Get to know former State Senator Laura Acasio.

Laura Acasio has been a community advocate for over 20 years. She has held various leadership roles within the Democratic Party of Hawaiʻi, and was appointed to the Hawaiʻi State Senate in 2021. She serves on the Hawaiʻi County Environmental Management Commission and has been a governing board member for Ka ʻUmeke Kaʻeo Hawaiian Immersion Public Charter School for over eight years. 

Laura is also a certified Labor Support Professional and understands the critical importance of supporting mothers and protecting the right to reproductive healthcare. Her experience as a birth worker is the cornerstone of her kuleana and pilina to our community.

As an educator with over 19 years of experience, Laura will always harbor a deep commitment to quality education. Her educational expertise spans environmental science, technology, Hawaiian studies, horticulture, and civics. Teaching our keiki the importance of engaging in our democratic system has become a passion for Laura, and she has taken student groups to the Hawaiʻi State Capitol to learn about government.

Laura’s diverse background as a former State Senator, educator, mother, birth worker, and community advocate uniquely qualifies her to serve again in the Hawaiʻi State Senate. She will work tirelessly to advance equitable policies which prioritize our local community.
